About Us

We are fortunate that we can offer one-to-one instruction to newcomers due to the fact that we always have fully-qualified instructors on hand who are more than happy let alone qualified to nurture nervous "newbies" whilst they aclimate and find their feet.

Traditional Karate training focuses on technique rather than on strength or size. The reason being is that thekey to force and power in a technique is rooted in how it is executed.

Although rather easy to imitate these movements, you will find that they require a considerable amount of practice and discipline to become adept at them.

At our dojos (school, studio, or centre) we practice a style of Karate called Shukokai. The English translation means "The Way for All." This system of Karate is a combination of traditional and contemporary styles of training. Shukokai is primarily an Okinawan-Japanese system, but it incorporates other aspects of different styles of martial arts.

Our Team

Bury Karate Club boast the fact that we are able to offer bespoke tuition from qualified black-belt instructors of which there are no less that five at any given time eager, able and awaiting the opportunity to share their skills on new children, adolescents and adults alike!

When your child first joins us, we will always endeavour to provide one-to-one tuition from a senior black belt instructor; failing this we would “buddy” them up with a suitable student who would keep a watchful eye on them. Our friendly members will help your child to feel comfortable in the new environment and karate techniques.

We remind parents not to be concerned if their child is not doing a technique right or perhaps is using the wrong hand or leg – we are aware but mindful that there is no need to constantly be correcting them when they are new. We much prefer to gradually coax them into doing things right in order to build up their confidence.

There’s no need to splash out on a Karate suit right away, we don’t mind if you “wait and see” if karate is for them. We do all in our power to gradually integrate newcomers into the class proper at a time that is right for them in order that they are happy in their new surroundings and want to be a part of it. We look forward to meeting you!
